For the second year, Transit is hosting this fun fundraiser. COME JOIN US!
Saturday, April 1st • 1PM – 4PM
CHI PRC • 858 North Ashland Avenue • Chicago
Edible Books events are now seventeen years old and happen all over the world. On April 1st book and food lovers join forces to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Anthelme-Brillat-Savarin whose book on food, Physiologie du Goût, is a meditation on the delights of food.
Artists, food-lovers, and civilians gather to create food that either looks like a book or is a play on the title of a book. (Where else are puns this welcome?) The only rule – everything has to be edible. The event will open at 1pm, there will be an hour and a half of viewing and lighthearted judging, but there is nothing light about our prizes:
- Letterpressed business cards or stationery
- An autographed copy of Brandon Graham’s novel, Missing People
- Artist-made prints
- And more!
TRANSIT is a 501c3 that helps artists find the time, space and venues they need to pursue a specific project (in the form of a two-week residency). Rather than be a residency destination/retreat itself, TRANSIT partners with existing arts organizations to support work of writers, visual artists, and other professional creatives. The money raised through the Edible Books event will help TRANSIT offer more artists more chances to do their work.
If you participate by making a book, you come in for free (if you want to let us know you plan on joining, so much the better). Tickets will be $10 at the door, $8 in advance (or more, if you’d like) through TRANSIT’s Paypal account (you can send your Paypal payment directly to firstname.lastname@example.org). Any donation for $8 or more between now and April 1st will serve as your ticket to eat!
