TRANSIT’s Outbound programs are developed for visual artists, writers, musicians / sound artists, performance artists, and choreographers/dancers who are residing in the Midwest — the Midwest being defined as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, for these purposes. (Prior to Fall 2016, TRANSIT only welcomed applications from those in Cook or Lake Counties, for our Outbound residencies.)
Artists-in-Residence in our Outbound programs are encouraged to keep some sort of journal during their residency, in preparation for their Guest Blog Post on our web site. We offer community interactions in the areas where the residencies take place, teaching/workshop and exhibition/performance opportunities during their residency, and addition exhibition opportunities through TRANSIT’s Chicago (pop up) galleries, when the artist/performer/writer returns home.
TRANSIT is excited to announce our 2017 Outbound program with Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum, in Two Rivers, WI — call for applications shall be released in January/February, awardee will be notified in April, for a 2-week residency to take place some time between June 1 and August 31, 2017 (based on artist’s and HWT’s schedule). STAY TUNED!
Applicants interested in offering their personal spaces (homes/studios) as a possible exchange should contact Meredith to give and get details. We are more than willing to try to match Inbound and Outbound homes and studios, and hope this would allow us to offer a larger stipend (to help cover travel costs, for example) to those artists. Please keep in mind this part of our program is still very much under development, as we look into insurance issues, and ways to ensure the safety/protection of both our artists and their homes/studios.
